TREE HOUSE!

For Christmas, “Santa” built Grayson a real big boy tool set.  From an early age, Grayson has always been very mechanical and fascinated with tools and figuring out the way things are built and work.  Since Christmas, we’ve done only a few small wood work projects with him, but nothing like this one.  Blaine and Grayson had been casually talking about building a tree house for the past few weeks.  I really didn’t think they were serious about it.  As you’ll see, we hardly have a tree!  Well, I definitely don’t think Blaine gives himself enough credit for how handy he really is!  He and his handy little helper built the ultimate tree house in one day!  After working the morning last Saturday, Blaine came home to eat a quick lunch, then drew up some plans (without using a calculator!)  and then headed to Home Depot.  The boys didn’t even start working until one in the afternoon and by six that night, they had themselves one awesome tree house!  Way to go Dadda and Grayson!

The boys even put MIss Colbie to work!  Blaine had taken his shirt off, so of course Grayson wanted to be just like his Dadda!

As you can see, we really don’t have much of a tree.  When Blaine told me that they were really going to build one, I had a hard time picturing where and how he would build it.  I never would have thought to just build around the tree….which is exactly what he did.

Grayson helped me paint a little and then took to streaking shortly after!  It was a long hard day for little handy man and this was exactly how he came out of the house when I told him we needed to get inside and start getting ready for a bath!  Crazy kid!

While I had very little to do with the actual building of the house, I did take on the decorating duties, which was super fun!  In addition to painting, I made some little curtains for the windows and found some super cheap stick-on faux wood floor tiles. 

You can see the house entrance here, which is a small hole in the back of the house.  Grayson calls it the “secret tunnel!”

The kids are already having a blast with it and Grayson is planning a camp out!  Hats off to you Daddy!  You did and amazing job!
