School’s Out, Summer’s Here!

 

We had some six month pictures taken of Jed a couple weekends ago.  Actually, as of tomorrow, he will be seven months old!  I can’t believe how quickly this is going by.  He was just a little over 17 pounds and 26 1/2 inches long at his six month check up.  He is sitting up really well on his own and can sit up on all fours, but not crawling yet.  He is also starting to enjoy foods a little more.  He doesn’t care for most of the veggies, but does like his fruits and rice cereal and loves his mum mum crackers and puffs.  I wish I could report that the sleeping issue was improving, but it is totally not!  This little stinker does not like to sleep for more than 2-3 hour stretches at night and naps only when HE feels it’s necessary.  You’d think the lack of sleep would make him a pretty crabby baby (I know it makes me crabby!), but as long as he has your attention, Jed is such a happy, squealy, smiling boy!

Since he sits up well on his own now, we’ve been giving him his baths in the sink…. so much easier on my back!

For Mother’s Day, we did a special family dedication at our church.  Somehow, I was able to get them to all look and smile for a picture before we left!

Last baseball game for the Rockies and then off to the beach with Grammy & Papa for a WEEK!!  Grayson & Colbie left after the game yesterday.  It was a mix of emotions seeing them go….I really thought I was going to cry like I did last summer, but for some reason I didn’t!  I hate to admit it (I love my kiddos to death!), but I think I was really needing this break!  Going from 3 under the age of six to only have one baby at home, even a sleepless baby, is quite the vacation!!!  Blaine & I don’t really know what to do with ourselves!  The kids were super excited too!  I mean, who doesn’t love the beach?!  It’s been a whirlwind since Jed was born and this was just the break that we ALL needed!  Thank you Grammy & Papa!!!

We will drive to Laguna this Friday for the Mud Run on Saturday and my mom says if we aren’t missing each other too terribly, my parents may even keep them that following week!  I wonder if Grammy and Papa will change their mind about this after the first week ;-)

Happy Easter, Sleepless Spring!

We celebrated Jed’s 1/2 Birthday yesterday.  Really, it was just an excuse for Colbie & I to make and eat cupcakes!  This sweet, smiling face has been a serious handful lately, still refusing naps during the day and waking up throughout the night.  That would be fine with me if he was content without sleep, but honestly, who is?!  He knows exactly what he wants on all aspects, including how he wants you to hold him & rock him, and he knows exactly how to get it!  Every once in a while, I’ll catch a break and he will take a longer nap or sleep a little better through the night.  We will think he is finally turning a corner and then for no reason at all, we are back to a sleepless cranky pants and a very tired and irritable Mama! 

We took him to Paty’s for the first time last week to give my mom a little break and also because my parents will be spending more and more time in CA during the summer.  We were anxious about this because we know he can be very demanding and were worried we would force her into an early retirement!  Paty is amazing though and said she would work with us and our little stinker.  He had a typical cat-nappin’ fussy first day, but the second day she was able to get him to take 2 longer naps AND eat his food…. something none of us have been able to accomplish in one day!  She is the miracle baby whisperer! 

When he gets his zzz’s and he has your FULL attention, Jed is a very happy and playful baby!  He’s starting to scoot a little when on his belly and is almost sitting up unassisted.

We started feeding Jed rice cereal a few weeks ago and are now starting to introduce some baby foods.  Some days he seems interested, some days not so much; however, he does really love his baby Mum Mum rice crackers!

We have tons of caterpillars this year on one of our trees out back and the kids love to catch them.  This is about as close as I will get to one!

Easter!  I tried to get a picture of all three without any luck.  Grayson gave us a good laugh that morning.  He had noticed that one of the Easter eggs wasn’t put together properly and told me that “the Easter bunny must have been in a hurry and was NOT focused!”  You got that right buddy!  May have something to do with the lack of sleep the Easter Bunny has had these days! 

We had Easter dinner and ANOTHER egg hunt for the kids out at Buddy & Susan’s.  Cousin Brodie & Jed got to hang out for a bit!

Becca & I got to take the girls to the Fairy Party this year.  Aside from a little wind and a ridiculously long line for the balloon lady, it was such a fun evening!  They had tons of “fairy” crafts for the girls and it was adorable seeing all the little girls running around in their tutus and wings….and cotton candy is always a hit!

Mom & hygienist of the year had to take her three year old in for two fillings last week.  With G & C already being introduced to dental work so young, I think Jed may be doomed!  Colbie was so tough and did such an awesome job…. I didn’t even have to go back with her!  Poor thing pretty much chewed up her bottom lip from being numb and had a fat lip for a couple of days :(
