5th Annual Mud Run!

024

Last Sunday marked our fifth annual family mud run adventures at the “World Famous” Camp Pendleton Mud Run!  This year, Team Goon was joined by my cousin Eric Hannon and a friend of my parents, Carrie Peterson.  Poor Grayson “wiwee wiwee wiwee” wanted to run it with us, so we ended up making him his own race bib with “Dadda’s number” so he felt official.  My mom said once he saw the racers crawling through the mud pits and looking so slimy and disgusting, he didn’t seem to eager to jump right in there and join us!  Everyone did awesome this year!  Eric flew past us all, pulling in an 8th place in his division, Carrie was a super sport and came in 29th, Blaine placed 14th in his (out of 240!!), and Papa and Mama Toot somehow managed to bring home a first place “METAL” (yes I know I spelled that wrong!) in each of our divisions!  Craziness! Who would have known Team Goon, a bunch of amateur goofballs really, had it in us?!  My mom was a great sport with the kids as always, keeping them happy and entertained while we ran the race.

I took last Friday off, so I was able to turn it into a little mini vacation with the kids.  We took off for Laguna Wednesday with my parents and Blaine was able to join us Friday evening.  We had a nice morning at the park, did some shopping with my mom and spent a couple great days at the beach.  My parents’ neighbors have a fountain that is full of tadpoles right now and in the evenings, you can hear the frogs chirping away.  This was super fun for the kids, especially Grayson.  Grammy made him his own little tadpole aquarium, where he could check on his two tadpoles daily to see how they are coming along.  We googled it and apparently it takes about 1-2 months for tadpoles to eventually turn into frogs…..and apparently, some never make the transformation and just remain tadpoles.  This is a “wiwee wong” time for a three year old, but we are being patient and Grammy is kind enough to bring home his tadpoles from Laguna this weekend so that he can take care of them here.  Lets hope we don’t kill them!

So of course I had to buy them these froggie jammies when I saw them at Costco!

Saturday night, we went to dinner at Sarducci’s in San Juan Capistrano, where Blaine and I had our rehearsal dinner.  It was fun to go back there and the kids really enjoyed watching the trains go by.  Grayson even got to squash a few pennies!

Sunday was a crazy long day, waking up at 4:30, racing, celebrating and then driving home. We thought for sure that the kids would crash in the car on the drive home, but NOOOOOO!  Lets just say, it was a LONG day on Sunday and the last few days have been exhausting and hectic….unpacking, laundry, back to work, routines and also started swimming lessons on Monday after work! Happy to say that yesterday went much smoother than Monday and I hope that it continues to go well. Monday was a total disaster! I’m pretty sure that we had the most unruly kids in BOTH classes. Grayson (who is swimming at home) REFUSED to get in the water for the first 20 minutes of class, crying, pouting and pitching a royal fit!  Meanwhile, I had Colbie in the mom and tot class, who was also throwing a fit, arching her back and screaming because she wanted to go on the “froggie slide, froggie slide, froggie slide” while we were in the big pool. Once we finally get to the froggie slide, she continues to scream “mine, mine, mine” to all the kids waiting in line and throws a fit every time I tell her “no, we have to wait our turn.” Thank God Blaine was there to help me. We did finally get Grayson to take off his shirt and get in the water and although he pouted the entire time, he survived. We all survived! I’m sure the fact that they were both completely overtired from the day before had something to do with my unruly children’s behavior! They were not angels yesterday, but Grayson got right in and seemed to actually enjoy himself and Miss Colbie,….well, she’s learning to cope with the fact that everything is not hers and we have to take turns!

That’s it for now.  Going to try to relax a little now before they wake up!  Haha!
